ABSTRACT

The largest proportion of the Bosnian Diaspora is the result of tragic war conflicts that forced hundreds of thousands of Bosnians to leave Bosnia. indeed, roughly 800,000 citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina emigrated in just two years – 1993-1994 (Kupiszewski 2009: 437). Almost two decades have passed since the Dayton peace agreement was signed in 1995. Even so, hundreds of thousands of Bosnian refugees still live outside their home country. in addition, out-migration continues in the post-war period. How have Bosnian refugees and migrants been incorporated in receiving societies? Do they maintain contact with their home country? What is their day-to-day life like? What may we say about their immigrant communities? We hope that contributions in this volume will answer these questions and provide a basis for cross-national comparative studies.
