ABSTRACT

This man was a 1990s Croatian war refugee from Bosnia to Sweden. Besides telling me about his brothers’ family tragic war experiences and his own struggle in the first years upon arrival to Sweden, he also talked about one of his children’s professional success – a matter of which he was enormously proud. He was pleased with his own employment that enables him to make use of his pre-war professional experience. The best thing about that job, however, is the fact that he can pile up free days and use them in order to go to Bosnia and Croatia at least four times a year. ‘it was very difficult in the beginning’, he said referring to his first refugeeyears in Sweden, while he had not yet obtained his present employment, and at the same time took financial responsibility of his orphaned nephew, placed with the relative in Zagreb. ‘But now it is really good’.
