ABSTRACT

OneofthecharacteristicfeaturesoftheGospelaccordingtoLukeisthat,in contradistinctiontotheothersynopticgospels,itcontainsalongsectionof nolessthantenchapters(9:51-19:28)givinganaccountofJesus'journey fromGalileetoJerusalem.Shortlyafterthebeginningofthislongtravel narrative,LukeincludesanaddressbywhichJesussentseventyorseventytwodisciples(thetextofLuke10:1and10:17isuncertain)outonmission.1 Thisspeechisoftencalledthemissionchargeormissiondiscourse(Luke 10:1-16).InLuke'sGospel,thisisnottheonlymissioncharge,butthe secondoftwo.Onechapterbefore,inLuke9:1-6,Lukehasthestoryofthe commissioningoftheTwelve,astorybasedonMark6:6b-13.Atthebeginningofthelongtravelnarrative,Lukerelatesthecommissioningofthe seventy-two.
