Thisstudyutilizesatextdynamicsapproach toexaminethemannerin whichEzekiel37hasinfluencedthetextof2Corinthians6:14-7:1.Text dynamicsisacognitivelyoriented,linguistics-basedapproachtobiblical interpretationthatisderivedinpartfrom·twocognitivetheories: informationstructure,asdelineatedbyKnudLambrecht,1andmental spacestheory,asdevelopedbyGillesFauconnier.Althoughthetwotheoriestendtooperateatdifferentgrammaticallevels(informationstructure functionsatthesentencelevel,whilementalspacestheoryfunctionsatthe paragraphlevel),bothareinterestedin'theinteractionbetweengrammar andcognitivestructure'.2Inparticular,mentalspacestheoryisusedtodescribe'...howaswethinkandtalk,mentalspacesaresetup,structured, andlinkedunder pressurefromgrammar,context,andculture.Theeffectis tocreateanetworkofspacesthroughwhichwemoveasdiscourseunfolds.'3Mentalspacestheoryisusefulforanalysisanddescriptionof writtentextbecauseacoherentsectionoftextisaninstantiationofsucha cognitivenetwork.
