Arkin and Ulam 2009; Arkin et al. 2009) focuses on this issue directly from a design perspective. As robots are already faster, stronger, and in certain cases (e.g., chess playing) smarter than humans, is it that difficult to believe they will be able to treat us more humanely on the battlefield than we do each other?
