ABSTRACT

Religion needs to be rethought to provide those for whom religion already means little or nothing with something worth believing in. It is unavoidable that unacceptable aspects of organised religion come under attack in the process. Religion in the usual sense of the word is therefore not the way forward for humankind. None of the religions available, either in the past or the present, have ever reached any agreement amongst themselves about their beliefs, even when they have a common origin, as in the case of Christianity and Judaism. By and large, religion represents a backward-looking failure to come to terms with the future. For the omnipotent capacities of God can now be seen as an idealisation of the future potential of intelligent beings in the universe. The aim of noology is secure morality on the foundation of universal notions.
