ABSTRACT

A playful map of the practice teaching world is designed to trigger ideas about whose considered opinions teacher might seek. This activity highlights the need to consider how the views of other people — students and clients, in particular — might be incorporated in teachers' portfolio. It surveys some of the difficulties in gathering and presenting these views fairly, and suggests some ways through these concerns. Their craft, Practice Teaching Ability, is somewhere on the Sea of Practice Teaching. Each landing point represents a possible source of information to them about where their craft lies. Teacher will probably find it helpful to compare their findings with other practice teachers, and to obtain ideas from each other about how they are going to involve others in giving feedback about their practice teaching. The practical task of involving students is made easier by the fact that practice teachers usually teach small numbers of students at any one time.
