ABSTRACT

This chapter does not intend to teach general first aid. Instead it aims to cover the types of illness and injury typical of air incidents and, particularly, of the different survival situations. It also takes into account that medical help is not just a 'phone call away and that the survivors will have to cope with nothing but the resources and knowledge that they have between them. Medical personnel may be on the flight but this can not be counted on. Even if they are, they may not have survived and are certainly unlikely to have any equipment with them.
