ABSTRACT
Despite the extensive legal, psychological, historical, and police studies literatures on a range of issues raised by police informants there is, as yet, no adequate sociological model. Proposing a particularly wide framework of inquiry, this article both suggests how such a model might be constructed and considers some of the related public policy implications.
