ABSTRACT

Jawhari (d. 1940), in his multivolume commentary on the Qur'an , argues that all scientific discoveries can be shown to have been mentioned in the Islamic scripture. More recently, the French surgeon Maurice Bucaille, a convert to Islam, has achieved notoriety with his best-selling book The Bible, the Quran and Science, maintaining that, unlike the Bible, the Qur'an contains scientifically impeccable knowledge. Not only individual scholars, but also large organizations, even governments, have evinced interest in the study of the Qur'an as a book containing scientific information and insight.
