ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines the dynamic processes and radical changes that are currently shaking up the international aviation market. The changes are affecting both airlines and airports to the same extent. An airport like Cologne Bonn must face up to new requirements and conditions. Two years ago, Cologne Bonn grasped the exceptional economic opportunity presented by the advent of low cost air travel. Today, the airport is Germany’s leading low cost airport. It is now faced with the challenge of consolidating this market position. Despite the risks that the market generally holds for airports, the future is looking bright for Cologne Bonn.
