ABSTRACT
The conference summarised the results of 15 years of poor spatial planning which had caused irreversible damages to the townscape and the quality of life in Warsaw. There was detailed criticism regarding the following key issues:
unregulated greenfield development which damaged the former interconnected system of open green spaces and ‘fresh air corridors’; the uncontrolled and uncoordinated increase in building densities and heights and the chaotic development of public spaces and central areas; the construction of single-family homes on agricultural or forest land outside the city centre and in the suburban municipalities; the severe neglect of the post-war large-scale housing estates.
