ABSTRACT
The aim of this contribution is twofold. Firstly, it examines trust as a key component of social capital in the context of the welfare state. Through the welfare state, political institutions play a major role in people’s lives, meaning that political institutions strongly shape citizens’ attitudes (Arts and Gellissen, 2002).
