ABSTRACT

The Act seeks to address and change the way that fraud cases are dealt with to take account of changes in technology.

With certain exceptions concerning railways and shipping, the Criminal Damage Act 1971 consolidated all previous legislation connected with

damage caused deliberately or by completely reckless behaviour. Its provisions do not extend to Scotland and Northern Ireland but the basics are identical, and in the former it is referred to as malicious mischief (a common law offence).
