People were talking about the international nature of Sebastian Castellio's Basle circle of students and about the supporters who gathered around some of his relatives and personal friends in Lyon. The Genevan church authorities, through the Biel pastor Ambrosius Blarer, had tried to blacken the name of Toussain, amongst others, to Count Georg as a traitor to the basic concerns of religious renewal. In 1560 the Dialogi sacri appeared for the first time in London and marked the beginning of a long series of English Castellio editions, which did not end until the close of the eighteenth century. Castellio even received news from Spain itself, news which must have made an impression on him and confirmed his observations on contemporary issues. The Latin Castellio Bible occupied a special position in the Valladolid Censura. Castellio's picture of the French crisis of 1560–62 was based on the constellation of the conspiracy of Amboise, the January edict, and the massacre of Vassy.
