ABSTRACT
Is the war being fought between evolution and creationism characteristic of the larger relationship between science and theology? Is warfare the best extended metaphor for understanding how scientific knowledge and Christian faith get along? The battle metaphor goes back to the late nineteenth century, most probably to the influence of the notorious book by A.D. White, A History of the Warfare of Science with Theology.l However, we will ask here: does the image of a declared state of war accurately describe the current interaction between theological thinking and natural science? No, not completely.
