ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the process of conducting a piece of research that attempted to incorporate the views of lesbian and gay respondents. It is an account of what happens to a researcher who is 'forced' to go back to the first principles of social research. The chapter also explores in detail how lesbians and gay men have been presented in research and where they have been excluded or marginalised in social research findings. It describes a lesbian researcher to ensure that lesbians and gay men are reflected in different areas of study, to see that our lives are reflected in more mainstream publications. In essence one role as a lesbian researcher would render lesbians and gay men visible but the topic of the research would not necessarily be directly about lesbians or gay men or about issues that only affect people lives.
