ABSTRACT

Through some form of tacit agreement, students and professors had singled out this evangelical student for discrimination of various forms. The 1990 elections gave the evangelical church a new dimension. Alberto Fujimori's presidential election victory was attributed – rightly or wrongly – to evangelicals' word-of-mouth support for his candidacy. One final anecdote brings me back to the subject of evangelicals isolating themselves. Some friends had a 19-year-old son with serious problems with drug addition. When this youth became an evangelical, he began to reduce contact with his family. When his parents asked for the author advice about this, the author noticed they seemed to prefer their drug-addict son over the evangelical one, because they had lost the latter. The data in this publication reveals that evangelical churches are growing fastest in the poor neighborhoods of the country. These are defining moments for the future of Peru.
