ABSTRACT

Does it need to be said that I grew up heterosexual? That was my reality and my conscious orientation, though after I came out, I remember many times when I was attracted to other girls or women. Before, during, and after my twenty-year marriage, sexuality was of major interest to me, and though I was drawn to men, I knew that I was open to a lesbian experi ence-if only a lesbian would approach me. I had a distorted notion of how woman-to-woman love might come about: I was waiting to be seduced. I had no sexual politics, no sense of the underlying power rela tionships that inform all prefeminist sexuality.
