ABSTRACT

The approach of this chapter is to suggest that such a sacramental understanding of ordinary congregations towards their church buildings already exists, but that the problem is that the changed context in which the tradition now operates means that the possibilities of this practice meaning anything to those outside church boundaries are strictly limited. Here is another zombie category where it is still possible to interpret current practice in a traditional manner without realizing that even regular church-goers may now see their relationship to a particular place in more fluid and complex ways.
