ABSTRACT

This chapter explores two of the key methods used in qualitative social work research. They include the interview, which is the most popular method used across the social sciences, and the questionnaire. For most dissertations or projects the use of one of these methods will typically be enough to collect adequate data to support the objectives of a study. However, there are times when both methods can be combined – such as by providing a brief questionnaire for participants to complete prior to, or following, an interview.
