ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at two separate methodologies which are united in their rigorous, precise and in-depth investigations and analysis. Grounded theory offers a painstakingly thorough collection and exploration of rich data yet also provides the researcher with considerable discretion regarding how to build up a sample and develop theory. Case study research looks instead at one case or example to explore in great detail a theme or set of issues that are at the centre of interest for the researcher. Each is now explored.
