ABSTRACT
The celestial hierarchy is obviously of great importance to Dionysius, since he devotes more chapters to it than to any other topic. In view of the lack of a generally accepted systematized hierarchy of angels in the early sixth century, his determination to create one is highly significant. It is, in fact, central to his whole scheme. I have therefore chosen to look at the Angelic Hierarchy in detail before proceeding to the other topics.
