ABSTRACT

Most reports fall into three parts. There will be an Introduction. Following this will be the main body of the report, sometimes called the discussion section, or the argument. Finally there will be Conclusions, to which Recommendations may be added. Every report must have a title. It must be set out in a way that makes it stand out clearly from the rest of the report and should be in a script which is at least as pronounced as any subordinate headings within it. If the introduction of a report is poorly drafted, the writer will have difficulty in maintaining the reader's attention, understanding or sympathy. In technical papers the method of working would be explained in a similar way. An outline of work done may suffice, with detailed work being laid out in an attachment. The main body, or meat, of the report will, of course, be divided into easily digestible chunks.
