ABSTRACT

The heart of an organization is its knowledge and experience. Knowledge and experience are now perceived to be key corporate assets. Davenport and Prusak (1998) comment that ‘what an organization and its employees know is at the heart of how the organization functions’ (p.x). Knowledge, personal intellectual resources, and the organization’s knowledge base underpin the experience, capability, capacity, and competence of the enterprise. Knowledge, personal intellectual resources, experience, and the base of enterprise knowledge are therefore crucial to the processes of leadership and management being described in this book. They are also key sources of value generation, value enhancement, and competitive advantage.
