ABSTRACT

The opening chapters focused directly upon the framework which we use to structure our knowledge, contrasting a two cultures model, discussed in the first chapter, with a newer model, described in chapter 2, which enables us to think in a more sophisticated way about the relationship between literature and science. Although the latter model does not result - indeed, given fundamental differences between the arts and the sciences, could not result - in the absolute abolition of the distinction between literature and science, it does enable us to formulate crucial links between the two realms.
