ABSTRACT

In this chapter we will look at the rational aspect of pilot judgment. It could be called 'The science of aviation decision making'. The concern here is with the facts, probabilities and information processing techniques in mathematical judgment. This part of judgment is considered 'rational' because it could be done on computer. Rational judgment is just as 'human' as motivational judgment, the subject of the next chapter even though we often say to our friends, about certain (irrational?) mistakes, 'that only shows that you are human'.
