ABSTRACT

The following chapter explores victim perspectives on female sex offending. The chapter begins by outlining the demographic characteristics of the sample of survivors and the ways in which they experienced women as sexually abusive. It then traces how participants negotiated the abuse experience both as children and later as adults. In exploring the life histories and perspectives of victims, we will see how their experiences of sexual abuse not only appear to defy traditional sexual scripts, but also how victims transform the sexual abuse experience in ways that are reminiscent of police officers and psychiatrists. The chapter then examines the reported impact of the sexual abuse. It also addresses survivors' experiences and perceptions of professional responses to their disclosures of sexual abuse by females.
