ABSTRACT

Social work involves travel to the usual place of work; to other agencies; to visit clients at home or in hostels, hospitals or prison, and to attend meetings in a variety of settings. Travelling on foot is often the easiest and quickest way of getting around, especially in a town or city. It is generally a safe means of travel, but the risks increase, of course, when it is dark, as it is on winter afternoons. Some people do not work for mini-cab firms at all, but put an aerial on the roof of their car and have an imitation handset. During recent years a number of incidents have occurred in which individuals have been attacked while using their private cars. Travel on motorways is a cause for concern, especially when a breakdown occurs or assistance is needed.
