ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to encourage and enable managers to develop policies and procedures to protect employees from violence. It develops a draft definition of violence relevant in their workplace. The chapter identifies the duties of employers in respect of safety from violence at work. It also identifies areas of potential risk within their organization. The chapter describes the elements of a policy on violence at work. It drafts a policy for the organization. The chapter develops procedures necessary to implement the policy. The chapter introduces the programme for the day, explaining that the purpose of the morning's activities is to produce a draft policy for the organization and the afternoon will focus on developing outline procedures necessary to support the policy. It explains the idea of an audit as a means of investigating risks. The chapter addresses the question that what are the duties of employers in relation to the safety of staff from violence?.
