ABSTRACT
In a small way, this is an example of what the Freedom of Information Act ought indeed to be doing. It is plainly right that the public should be entitled to find out the amounts which we receive by way of allowances paid for out of public funds. Indeed, I was quite surprised to discover that such a right did not already exist. Media interest in my own allowances was, I am glad to say, absolutely nil.
