At the height of the Augsburg Interim, Magdeburg chronicler Heinrich Merckel reported,
The Interim teaching in itself has been treated quite disgracefully and contemptuously. People played ‘Interim’ on gaming boards, cursed it, and sang about it as follows: ‘Blessed is he who can trust in God and does not approve of the Interim, for it has a fool behind it.’1
