ABSTRACT

In the 1980s, Boeing introduced the 757 and 767, and in 1997 produced the first computer-designed transport, the wide-bodied 777. With its combination of jets to serve shorter and longer routes, Boeing became the first manufacturer to offer airlines a "family" of aircraft to serve their needs. By fulfilling their requirements from the Boeing family, airlines could reduce training costs by having their pilots learn a common cockpit configuration and cut maintenance expenses by purchasing spare parts from one vendor (Boeing).
