ABSTRACT

The person on the spiritual quest for God or enlightenment is like a fish in the sea looking for the ocean.

Hide and Seek We received an invite recently to join a retreat-come-spiritual workshop on some Greek island. For just under a thousand pounds we could continue the process of finding the god-within, if not actually become any more certain of the Almighty, the Ultimate Fountain of Knowledge and Love. It was probably good value for money but quite why we needed ‘this beautiful island’ with its numerous ‘ancient sites’, and ‘spiritual ambience’, to discover something about ourselves, escaped us. Given that the ‘self’ – whatever that might be – is here and now, ‘self-knowledge’ must be waiting, here and now, to be called into our awareness of being. This is the beginning and end of the problem of this chapter.
