ABSTRACT

Guidelines for constructing paragraph and list mode descriptions are given in Section 15, and examples of the various modes described here are given in Part IV.

7.2 Finding aids in list mode consist of tabulated columns, in which the entries for any individual level appear arranged under the field heading in columns, each entry occupying column spaces horizontally across the page. This mode can only usefully be employed when the main text entry or entries (typically in central columns) is relatively short. There is no formal limit to the length of textual entries in list mode fields, but the need to limit tabulated margins to left and right will determine the practical limitations of this mode.
