ABSTRACT

A central problem in selecting a solution is one of finding agreed terms or language through which we can distinguish the solutions. A variation on the coin-tossing idea appeared in an episode of David Lynch's TV drama series Twin Peaks. This chapter decides to take each solution in turn, and compares it against all the others, pretending to defend it against all others in order to generate distinguishing characteristics which cumulatively might distinguish one solution from another. The chapter explores all the potential criteria which might apply in making our final choice. And second, rank all the criteria in terms of importance. The Ease and Effect Matrix (EEM) is a way of prioritizing solutions by arranging them within a nine-box matrix of three columns by three rows. The Ishicooper integrates both the cause and effect fishbone with the solution and effect diagram.
