ABSTRACT

Planning to implement a solution requires a combination of sheer hard work and creativity. Failure to use imagination, leaving detail to chance, will lead to chaos and lack of credibility in the future. KISS is a British Army mnemonic meaning Keep It Simple, Stupid. It doesn't mean to say that soldiers are stupid, but suggests that under stress, when a plan contains ambiguities or is difficult to understand, it will lead to misunderstandings. Tactical Thinking (TT) is just a convenient way of packaging the obvious need to think into the implementation, foresee what could go wrong and deal with it. TT is a four-stage process: Identify all the problems we face, Put them into a logical sequence, Design actions which overcome the problems, and Integrate actions into an exhaustive plan-structure. If there are gaps in plan-grid, this may mean that processes involved require a pause or it may mean hidden waste in terms of utilization or employment of people.
