ABSTRACT
This chapter is designed to link theoretical and empirical work. It provides basic information on the organization of recovery and protection of ancient heritage in Greece, and the Greek experience is placed in perspective by comparing it with international standards. This will facilitate the understanding of the conditions and the general environment in which such a serious, difficult and demanding task is implemented, and an assessment of the relationship between intentions and results.
