ABSTRACT

This chapter concentrates on the academic writing one will need to undertake as part of course assignments and introduces examples of ways in which online and mobile technologies can help them. The use of technology has changed the ways in which we write, and provides new options and opportunities for constructing, editing and sharing written work. The most well known and widely used suites of tools for writing are those which come as standard with all new desktop and laptop computers, or the freely available open source equivalents which can be downloaded from the Internet. Different variations of these software packages are available, but all of them include a word processor for creating documents, a spreadsheet tool for manipulating numerical data and presentation software for building slide shows. Where coursework involves an oral presentation or poster then one may be required to make use of presentation software.
