ABSTRACT

Everyday life is full of opportunities to communicate, and increasingly much of this takes place online. Some people like blogging and publishing news about their particular interests, or perhaps reading and commenting on others' blogs. Communicating online is no longer restricted to home or office, because mobile devices allow us to combine phone use with the ability to check email or websites in addition to talking or texting. This chapter shows why and how communicating and belonging to a community with our fellow students is important for study at university or college, and describes the various tools which are available to support this, together with some examples of the many ways in which they are used. The use of online and mobile technologies has had a major impact on how we communicate and also on who we contact and when. Communicating with a student group is one of the most important parts of studying.
