1 The index is an insertion. Unlike the rest of the volume it is attached to the binding by a
pasteboard. 2 Couper informs us that Halkett’s daughter was born on the 11th of October 1661 (Life
30). He assigns her the name ‘Jean’ but Halkett calls her Jane (see 33 below). A later entry informs us that Jane died 11th February 1665/6 (see 152 below).
