ABSTRACT

Consultants' is a short simulation for practising the packaging of tradables. It deals with a not unusual problem with consultancy firms and their clients, namely when they work for government departments that are subject to changes in ministerial priorities, rethinks and changes in specifications. The technical terms need not be an impediment even to beginners – although a quick run through the terms may help. This chapter illustrates the case study of MicroStrat consultants. Department of Development (DD) suggested that MicroStrat keep the team in being in readiness for when the feasibility study goes ahead in three months' time. The DD postponed a previous feasibility study, and MicroStrat was able to reassign the staff earmarked for the project without loss of revenue. On this occasion, no alternative work is available except odd jobs and occasional assistance to other projects, none of which would keep the team fully employed nor employ them to the normal level of their earning capabilities.
