ABSTRACT
Divorce/Marital Status 1. The Problem Azizah married Abu in 1997 in Egypt. He was 56 years old and a successful lawyer; she was 20 years old and eager to marry a rich, handsome man like Abu. He had a magnificent house on the outskirts of Cairo and her quarters were luxurious. She knew that she was Abu’s second wife and that his first wife, Zahra, was still living. Zahra was the same age as her husband, however, and had gone through menopause. She seemed like an old woman next to her fit, vibrant husband. Abu mentioned that she had been involved in a serious car accident several years earlier and had never regained her health. Although she seemed vague and distracted, she and Azizah got along well. Azizah became pregnant within three months of the wedding and gave birth to a son, Nasr.
