ABSTRACT

What made each house so singular was, of course, the form; the details on the dormers and porches, the way in which they were painted, and their personal histories, expressed in the additive history handed down from deed to deed, written by every resident. There was a great deal of character and individuality invested in each structure from years of modications, additions, subtractions: an added room, paint painted over paint, a well-kept garden, an unkempt lawn, a sagging roof, historically accurate railings, a reconstruction of a stained glass window, glass block, a satellite dish.
