ABSTRACT

The main task for environmental social science is to study by what mechanisms such units are built up, maintained, and possibly reformed, and how they affect the possibility of co-ordinate social action. The social sciences have to seek compensation in more sophisticated study designs and concept formations. One flourished in the philosophy of science a couple of decades ago and succeeded, mainly by sweeping historical examples, in showing that even within science proper are anomalies accepted for quite some time before such changes occur as require the breaking up and reorganizing of established coherent theories. The social scientist tries to safeguard against spurious results by using statistical significance tests, standardized interview procedures, independent evaluators and other such precautions. Develop social responsibility at an early age, use social pressure for the formation of habits and see to it that there are many visible role models in society.
