ABSTRACT

This chapter argues that imagination needs to be expanded, while the interconnection between the self and others into mutual recognition needs to occur, particularly in the context of the hierarchical gender structure where women are seen as the other. The importance of freedom and common potentiality of all humans developed internally needs to be encouraged to exist and thrive by external structures. Feminism definitely needs to retain a normative progressive political programme based on women as human beings retaining an idea of a common shared humanity. The chapter analyses positive role imagination has to play in developing an interconnected world at a local and global level, focusing on individuals' common humanity. There are two strands to the role of imagination. The first is the possibility of making a claim to have a capacity for imaginative reflection to develop within each individual into some type of legal right. The second is developing imaginative capacities regardless of having such a legal right.
