ABSTRACT

General Eberhart made the above statement as part of a command-wide Safety Message for the A ir Combat Command. In the message, he directed a Safety Down Day, a day of no flying in which all ranks would take time to reflect on how they do business and focus on safety issues. The General knew how important it is for the CEO (in this case a 4-star general and commander) to influence the course of safety. H is effort was successful; an adverse trend in human factors-caused mishaps turned around in outstanding fashion, beginning a two-year success story of driving down accident rates to record lows.
