ABSTRACT

Leaders show the way. They guide and persuade people toward a preferred course of action. Not all leaders are Chief Executive Officers (CEO's) or senior executives. Managers and supervisors at every level of an organization provide leadership. While their span of control differs, their function as leaders remains constant-accomplish the mission. A CEO directs executive actions to achieve strategic goals; a line supervisor leads a group of workers toward a task or daily quota. As part of the 'whole-team' effort, the daily quota contributes to the strategic goal. The interconnections represent an important corporate effort. Equally, in their sense of responsibility to show the way, organizational leaders are faced with an ever important and persistent question, 'How safe is safe enough?'
