ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book reviews whether post-Communist Russia is moving towards a position that compliments the global processes of neoliberal hegemony, or whether the diverse social forces contained within Russia will continue to complicate such developments. The ascension of Putin to the summit of power in 2000, following the resignation of Yeltsin marked a watershed for Russian politics at the centre. The book presents an overview of recent developments within Putin's Russia and argues that these can only been seen within a global context. The direction and subsequent strategies that Putin has advanced can be read however as a more successful attempt to build a stable form of hegemonic civil society that is consistent with the overriding conditions of globalisation. The principals of Passive Revolution and trasformismo can be seen much more visibly with the rise of Putin.
