ABSTRACT
Currency at Auckland and Wellington: From the beginning of British rule the pound sterling of 20 shillings at 12 pence (see pp. 3-5) was the common currency used for all transactions in New Zealand. In 1858 sterling also became officially the legal tender of New Zealand.
